The Town of Byala
Byala is a lovely coastal town, just 40km south of Varna, a modern, cosmopolitan town
with it’s own international airport. Byala has a population of only 3000 until the tourists
arrive in the summer season, although the local bars and restaurants are open all year round.
Temperatures hover in the low to mid 30’s through the long lazy summer. The beaches are
large and clean with sea temperatures up to 27°C in July and August. Byala has a small but
busy ‘port’, with local fishermen and tourists mingling.
Founded in the 3rd century before Christ, Byala today is a mix of traditional village and
tourist resort. Byala is a prosperous Bulgarian village due to the thriving local wine
industry. The wine of the extremely fine vintage “Dimyat” is produced there.
There are many cafes and restaurants often with live music, offering delicious Bulgarian
and international meals and drinks. In the town there is also a polyclinic, post office and school.
If you are a fan of the sport entertainment, Byala offers water slide, tennis court, fishing
and a variety of water sports.
Byala with its favourable conditions – crystal sea, sandy beach and a forest – offers
wonderful opportunities for recreation.
Clean beaches, safe swimming and wide sandy beaches characterise the northern Black Sea Coast
with the lively town of Varna a good base from which to explore the surrounds. To the
south lie picturesque bays and unusual rock formations, and the trawler port of Bourgas
flanked by the old Greek fishing villages of Sozopol and Nesebur.
